Children's Summer Nature Programs

The 2021 FOFAH summer programs offer children the opportunity to explore the out of doors while having fun in a relaxed and safe environment at George Hendee's Hilltop Farm. Participants will learn about nature and science, while making friends and building self confidence under the guidance of scientists and teachers.

Programs are aligned with the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) approach to the world and learning.

Our goals:

  • Promote an understanding and love of nature

  • Advocate the wise use and preservation of natural resources

  • Educate about the interrelationship of soils, water, plants, animals and people

Lil Chicks  - Ages 4-6
Our instructor is a Suffield High School Agriscience student. Her agricultural project is to raise chickens in the "backyard chickens" model, sell the eggs, and to educate children about raising chickens and how eggs develop. This is a four-part series, yet each session is a lesson on its own. So your child will still learn interesting facts about chickens without attending all four sessions.

  • Thursday:

    • July 15 - Chicken and Egg Development

    • July 22 - Parts of the Chicken

    • July 29 - Caring for and Handling Chickens

    • Aug 5 - Chicken Poop and Composting

  • $25 / each session
